THE ISLAND OF GIANT POKÉMON!

MISSINGNO.
I
NFINITE ITEMS &
L
EVEL 100 + POKEMON

I call this trick the Island of Giant Pokémon after my favourite episode of the Anime. I figure it's a little similar since you catch abnormally high level Pokémon here. I've spent many many hours working out the bugs of this wierd glitch in the game. I hope my insight helps many trainers raise the ultimate Pokémon.

New info added on November 7th. Click here to see it.

Go to Viridian City To do this trick you'll need a Pokémon with the surf ability so unfortunately you'll already have to have already done a good chunk of the game.
First you'll need to go to Viridian city. Remember the old man at the starting that wouldn't move 'till he had his coffee? Go talk to him. He'll ask you if you're in a hurry. Answer 'No'. He'll demonstrate his catching skill on a poor unsuspecting Weedle. Then you're set.
Old Man Bags a Weedle

Surfing! Now, without being fought, go to Cinnabar Island. That's the Island south of Pallet where they have all the Pokémon research labs. Surf up and down on the east coast in the water but still over the beach as indicated in the picture. Eventually you'll be attacked. One of many things can attack. It could just be a Pokémon like the last group you fought before talking to the old man (a great way to catch Safari Zone Pokémon but that's a different story) it could be a level 100+ Pokémon or even a Missingno. If it's a Missingno it will glitch your game but in a good way. People claim Missingno. can erase you're code but I've never had it happen. Just don't catch them. Wild Missingno.

131 Moon Stones, 127 Rare Candies & 126 Master Balls If you run away or kill the Missingno. you'll get a great side effect. The number of items in your sixth slot will be incremented by 128. All right! It's a great way to get tons of cash, duplicate rare TMs or make tons of rare candies. Why 128? The way I see it it changes the most significant bit of your item to a 1. Although it usually has only up to 99 of an item you can actually have up to 255. So a 1 in binary is 00000001 changed to 10000001 which is 129. Fight another Missingno. and nothing changes but use up 2 and you get 127 (see left screen), 0111111 in binary. Do the trick again and you get 11111111 or 255 items (see right screen). Not too shaby! 131 Moon Stones, 255 Rare Candies & 125 Master Balls

Missingno. was caught! So you really want a Missingno. eh? Okay but I warned you. You can catch 'em like any other Pokémon. Master Balls never fail but you can do it with an Ultra Ball if you weaken him enough. He's pretty glitchy. Definetly not supposed to be in the game. His stats are crappy. He's got really high Attack but everything else is bad. Worse even than Chansey bad or Magicarp bad. Notice the lack of graphics too.
You can also catch Glitch'm, which is basically a MISSINGNO. with a wierd name. Same attacks, crappy stats and uses all TMs but give him a Rare Candy and he'll turn into Kangaskhan. Good trick for raising the ultimate Kangaskhan 'cause he can learn all TMs before being evolved.
Well at least the Attack is high

Sky Attack, Water Gun, Water Gun His attacks are pretty crappy too. He's got Sky attack which is pretty good since it depends on strength so it'll whoop anyone but it takes 2 turns so you might get killed. His 2 Water Guns are useless because his special is so low that he could barely take on an injured Geodude. You can teach him any TMs though.
A guy with vampire hair meets a marshmallow man
Check out what he looks like on the selection screen. Now tell me this isn't a glitch.
When you try to use him in a fight the glitches start to pile on even more. Ash is all messed up when he comes in. The tiles are straight but put together backwards. The enemies are flipped too.
Ash is feeling a little under the weather

Oh Ekans, I guess it's Snake now When Missingno appears he's just scribbles. That's probably backwards too but it's just junk so you can't tell. If you attack the enemy or if it moves somehow the glitches continue. The tiles go in the right place but they're still facing backward so it looks even worse. If you change guys the glitches are still present. Your other Pokémon still look glitched. Poor Psyduck! When you finish the game ideally you'll have your Pokémon inlisted in the Pokémon Hall of Fame. This'll be totally glitched if you simply fight a Missingno. but the number of times you finish it will still be the same. They start to make sense again in the late numbers if you've finished it 50 to 75 times but only the later records. It's fun to look at 'cause guy's have wierd names and show a random picture. If you're lucky you can even sometimes see a picture of a Mew. Now he's really got a headache

Oooh a Golbat! Missingno. aren't the only glitched Pokémon you can catch. You can also catch Pokémon that are over level 100. Shown her is a level 128 Golbat. If you know a lot of people you can collect the ultimate team of super powerfull pokémon 'cause it varies with your name. Weaken him enough and you can catch these Pokémon using Master Balls or even Ultra Balls in time. They're not glitched at all. If you win any experience with them or leave them in the daycare for any amount of time they'll go down to level 100. You can catch these Pokémon!

So what is it that determines what high level Pokémon you can catch? Well it's pretty complicated but somehow someone noticed teh patern and determined that it all depended on what your name is. Starting at the second letter you can tell what Pokémon you're likely to fight. For more info on all of this you can check out Tracking Mew and Cracking the Code.

Okay so did you check out all these links? No you don't care that much? Okay so skip down to here.. If you do care keep reading a bit. I cracked the code for the preset names like GARY, BLUE, JOHN, ASH, RED and JACK. Checking with the hex codes on this page I figured out what the game considered my name to be with GARY and ASH.

In blue, with the name "GARY":
AR : 128, Marowak
Y_ : 152, MISSINGNO.
JO : 137, Clefable
HN : 135, Electrode
_N : 135, Electrode
it's as if the name was GARY_JOHN_N
but normally when it hits the _ it just stops writting the name
This coincides with the name choices in blue:
NEW NAME;
BLUE;
GARY;
JOHN;
N
EW NAME;
RED;
ASH;
JACK;

In red, with the name "ASH":
SH : 146, MISSINGNO.
_J : 80, MISSINGNO.
AC : 128, Golbat
K_ : 138, MISSINGNO.
NE : 141, Snorlax
it's as if his name was ASH_JACK_NE
This goes with the red names:
NEW NAME;
RED;
ASH;
JACK;
NE
W NAME;
BLUE;
GARY;
JOHN;

So basically it considers your name to be 11 characters long starting with the first character of the preset name you chose and if it goes out of the choices for your player name it goes into the choices for the rival name. I've only tested this with GARY and ASH though because I'm not willing to play the whole game through the first 5 badges just to test it out again. So if anyone actually chose RED, JACK, BLUE or JOHN as their name then drop me an e-mail (zz@canada.com).

These Pokémon love candy! If you really want the ultimate Pokémon might I suggest pumping them full of Rare Candies obtained using the infinite item trick listed above. Usually when a Pokémon reaches level 100 he won't take any more Rare Candies 'cause it's the max level. The Pokémon aren't at level 100 so they can still be brought up levels. Techinically you can bring them up to level 255 then they go back to 0 but I don't recomend it. Through my cheating I've ran into 2 different kind of 100+ Pokémon. Let's call them types A and B. Type A can be brought up to level 254 without problems but when brought up to 255 you can't take them out of a storage box. When you try the game will freeze on you. If you do this you should just release the Pokémon into the wild 'cause all you can do is look at his stats. So these should be brought up to level 254. Not so fast!

Then there's type B Pokémon. I think that the type depends on the game you catch them with. Unfortunatly I didn't get any type Bs with the emulator so I don't have any cool screenshots of this neat stuff. The way I see it type Bs have way too much exp points so when they reach a certain level it restarts from 0 or something. I'm not sure exactly how this thing works. What happens is up to level 244 they work fine. Deposit or withdraw them from Bill's PC without any problem but after that things go glitchy.

245 -> 255
246 -> :L59
247 -> :L74
248 -> :L84
249 -> :L92
250 -> 100
251 -> 106
252 -> 111
253 -> 116
254 -> 121
255 -> 125
Consult the table on the left. When you deposit your Pokémon with the left level he'll be withdrawn with the level on the right. If you put him in at level 245 and take him out at 255 he'll be missing a little HP which can be healed normally and then he'll be a perfect level 255 Pokémon. You can then deposit and withdraw him as much as you want. For all the others their level will decrease, as will all their stats exept for health. Their maximum health will decrease but their current health will remain at the same high number. This means that the Pokémon will have more health than the maximum until healed or left in a Pokémon Center. You can then pump it back up to a high level (on if it's already past 100) and will have high stats again with boosted HP, past the usual max of 999. You see when you raise your level your health is raised too. You can keep doing this indefinetly. The max I've done is a Charizard with over 1500 and I had to keep doing it a bunch of times. Unfortunatly you can't get symbols after 9 so it starts to put wierd stuff in the hundreds digit after 1000, like with the infinite item trick. If you want to get the most out of this trick I suggest bringing you Pokémon to level 251 before putting him in your box 'cause then he'll have the most levels to go up without being stuck under 100.

Why would anyone do this? Well it looks neat to see your health bar to off the screen and it's fun for having powerhouse battles with other glitched Pokémon in the Colosseum. I for one can't wait to see how these guys do in Stadium. Once I did this real wierd glitch and I had a Nidoqueen with infinte health. She was put to sleep while confused or something then I changed and changed back and then she couldn't attack but eventually the enemy self destructed and I won the battle going down to level 100 and had infinite health. I hadn't saved it though and gave it a fresh water. The health kept going down for about 20 minutes. It went through all 255 possible symbol in the hundreds digit and started looping again so I just turned the game off and this unique trick was lost forever. I haven't been able to duplicate this trick again 'cause I'm not really sure what I did.

So how do you know if you have type A or B? Just try and see. Bring them up to level 244 with Rare Candies and save it. Bring to 254 and but the Pokémon in the box. Take it out. If it's level 121 it's type B so if you don't care for super health reset, bring it to 245, deposit, withdraw and you're set. If it didn't change levels it's type A. Just leave it like it is 'cause it's not worth bringing up one more level unless you want to scrap it anyways.

Who`s that Pokémon?

Look at all the amazing stats. If you have a gameshark you can put codes to fight any Pokémon to get the ultimate of your favourite Pokémon.

Even if you don't have a cheating device you aren't necessarily limited to catching the types of Pokémon you're fighting. You might be up for a Ditto. If you can fight Clefable then try this wierd trick. Clefable use metronome (random attack) which is not normally used by any wild Pokémon you fight so the game wasn't programmed for this but by cheating you've messed things up already. If you're really lucky Clefable will use Metronome and use Tranform, Ditto's attack. Now if you catch the transformed creature it'll say 'Ditto was caught' and you'll have a perfect high level Ditto you can pump up with Rare Candies. I only got to do this once and of course I have no screenshots 'cause I did it on the real game. Theoretically this trick would also work if you encountered Mew doing the trick because Mew can use transform. Of course why would you want Ditto, whose only attack is transform and has crappy stats, when you could have a powerfull Mew with better stats and transform? Well why would you do any of this? For fun!

Venonat! Now here's another way of getting a better variety of Pokémon. If one of the high level Pokémon you fight can be traded somewhere in the game by various trainers then you could trade for a high level Pokémon. You see when you trade with Trainers the Pokémon you get will be of the same level as the Pokémon you give them. For example lets say I catch a Venonat at level 138 (I used a Gameshark here 'cause I didn't get any tradeable Pokémon). I can go to Cinnabar Island Pokémon research center and trade for a level 138 Tangela. I tried it and it works just fine. Want to trade a Venonat for a Tangela?

Nidoran M -> Nidoran F
Abra -> Mr. Mime
Poliwhirl -> Jynx
Spearow -> Farfetch'd
Slowbro -> Lickitung
Venonat -> Tangela
Raichu -> Voltorb
Just check the table on the left. If you catch any of the left Pokémon you can trade them somewhere for the one on the right. I dream of someday getting the ultimate Farfetch'd and Lickitung. Crinkles, I hate that name!
