Since September 25th there has been a void in my core which today was filled a bit.

It's the Sailor Moon Special act! A 1 hour special taking place years after the end of the series. So I'll do like a review with pictures. I know no one here really cares about this show but I excommunicated mysefl from the moonie board and I feel like posting this.

Everyone is shown as what they're doing which is cool. You don't really ever get a glimpse at how the girls turn out so this is nice:
Image
Sailor Moon is grown up and cooking food. Her dream has always been to marry Mamoru so this fits. Her dream is also to protect the people of the earth which is a bit more ambitious... don't really think she'll be doing that in the future of this continuity.

Image
Ami's finally a Dr. It's not as if there was any doubt as she's such a bright girl. This is so severely hinted at in all continuities.

Image
Rei is still a priestess. I sort of expected her to do something more. Singer/songwritter/international success life. Haha. Anyway no husband which is sort of in character but sort of hope for her to do something more with her life. It's good if she defends the earth and stuff but she sort of isn't anymore.

Image
Makoto working in a flower arrangement place. I always expected her to become a chef. But oh my... interesting stuff I will get to later...

Image
Keiko in her hotness goes into this warehouse in one of the first scenes of this special.

Image
Here she is with Luna who now spends almost all her time in human mode which is weird. Even in from of Usagi's mom.

Image
And *boom* a big explosion pushes Rei over. Tragic! But she'll be okay, right? ... right?

Image
Mio is freaky! I think they did a good job with her in this. She comes back singing her same old song. Beryl I guess is gone for good but Mio stays... yet they're the same person in a sense...

Image
Here's where I get pissed off. Rei in the hospital. Okay... and then the story goes on and... Rei never gets out of the hospital! The other girls go off on their journey and fight and all the while Rei is sitting in a bed! WTCrap?! I wonder why. Must have been busy when they did the shoot? Contract problems? I don't know but I would really have liked to see more Rei in this special. We don't even see her as Mars! I kept thinking they were waiting to bring her out to do something cool... but nothing. All I can think is it was scheduling.

Image
Ami drives a car. Of course we don't see her actually drive it since Chisaki is only 16.

Image
So apparently Minako is totally awesome now. She kicks this freakin' clown and puts him right through a concrete wall. It's so awesome.

Image
Mamoru about to kiss Mio. She almost gets it! A lot like in episode 46 of the anime... only they don't actually kiss...

Image
I was so hoping for evil Mamoru here. I was not feeling monstrous gruntish evil Mamoru in act 48. I guess this has a bit younger audience than the manga and anime had. Can't have Mamoru chocking Usagi in a show where we don't even see them kiss.

Image
Notice Mars is NOT there! The tambourines are gone. Replaced by the weapons they transformed into in act 49. I found it very fitting that Venus gets the swords Mars had as one of them came from her tambourine in act 49.

Image
Now this was awesome. Motoki and Makoto were clearly together thoughout this act as could be seen by all the turtles around Makoto's place. Then when he gets the bouquet and gives it to her as his way of propossing... ahh.... so glad that worked out. After their date episode I was really fearing they were not going to put them together because it's part of soldier's duty to be alone and protect the princess and stuff.

Image
Usagi's sad. Her friends are all moving away (Rei is in Kyoto, Minako in London, Ami in the US?). Sort of weird since by other continuities they get married, crystal toyko and they stay around to protect but now the powers are gone and they live out their lives. A happy ending of sorts.

Image
Usagi looks up and sees Mamoru. Her friends are moving on but she's living her dream of living her life with Mamoru. Reminded of this she is happy and all is well with the world.

All in the all I thought this whole act was awesome. A very unique ending to a unique take on a great story. Very final. No chance for a sequel or any more seasons of the show with the way the show wrapped up and since it's in the future can't have anything take place right after the first season.

Looking forward to the prequel "Act 0".

It's the shit those greasy fuckers at the mall watch when they are not sweating over the newest Dance Dance Revolution game...

It's good fun for 13 year old girls... or 26 year old homosexual Canadiennes who live in their parent's basement.

It pretty much did come out of nowhere. They're in a warehouse and there's this evil energy forming on the floor. It explodes and out comes Mio who has reappeared on this earth for no well explained reason.

And Sailor Moon, for those who are unfamiliar with it, is the greatest story ever told. That's all there is to it.

PS: Transcript.

Well have read the transcript and rewatched it. Funny how I don't really know what they're saying but still sort of take in most of the story. Words are overrated I guess.

So yeah had a bit of time to think about it. Rei is still a preistess but in doing so is honing her supernatural powers. Despite the fact that all have lost their powers Rei still has a kind of her own. Like how ever before she got hers she had her powers so that's sort of unrelated to the past life and stuff. So I'm pretty happy with how that story ends up. And sure she's single but don't see that she's wanting to pursue a life alone as we see when she bumps Minako over for the bouquet. And she's just 19 or so by my math in this special so do not expect someone so young to be past the hope of settling down. This is more promising than the prospect of the manga.

Oh and I'm still wondering what's up with Luna. The other girls they sort of made them up so you can imagine 4 years of aging. But Luna they didn't even try and you would think they'd recast or something since the girl is like 10. I wonder if Luna is unaging or immortal or something. Or doesn't age in cat form. And I wonder when Ikuko figured out who she was.. or if she just doesn't question the blue hair. Don't imagine Luna did a brainwash like Chibi Usa. Hm... but yeah Shingo does not age either in these 4 years so maybe we're just to suspend belief... or maybe the crystal's immortality powers are extending to the Tsukino family... though it is gone. Don't imagine they mean to tackle that.

So yeah have made the mistake of wandering into moonie boards and seeing how they feel. They all pretty much hated this thing. I really don't get that. Bah! Screw 'em.

You're both wrong. The target audience is younger than 13 or 12.

It doesn't. I feel for the show but not for the fact that I'm not of the target demographic. Other people will judge me for that and I accept that they don't get it.
