First! Try to find a Canadian address on this Canadian map site:
http://www.mapquest.ca/

When you give up go and read my beef:

Such a rational solution! I know this problem has been there for at least 2 years now. I can't imagine no one's complained about it. Still I'll try and bring it up. I predict their response will be "well just use the driving map function". That's what my sister says every time I complain about mapquest.

So... yahoo maps, eh? Gonna chell that one out.

Hi,

I've experienced a problem with your site for some time now. I'm in Canada and it takes a lot of work to actually have your site reckognise a Canadian address. I come to the site through mapquest.ca, the Canadian version, and when I input my address, complete with Canadian postal code as found in the abbreviation page ( http://www.mapquest.ca/maps/abbrev.adp ), it doesn't reckognise that it's a Canadian address.

If I click on "maps" and specify that it's in the country of "Canada" it still won't reckognise me as having put in a Canadian address.

I have to go into the driving directions section where it knows what a Canadian province code is before finding what I'm talking about. This is very counter intuitive and must be frustrating a lot of other users.

I think it would help a lot of people if this problem was resolved.

Thank you for your time,
aDam
Now the waiting game to see if they get back to me with anything...

Hey, apparently there is a Vancouver in Washington. Thank you Mapquest for this new information.

I guess Mapquest thinks Vancouver WA is more important than Vancouver in British Columbia. They're not the ones hosting the 2010 Winter Games or something. Screw them!

Yahoo maps is way better. But you have to specify which country you want because Yahoo maps picks Vancouver WA over Vancouver BC too.

I don't mind specifying the country. I just hate that at first they don't ask, although they should know from the url, and then when you do specify it they still ignore it.

Okay I get it now. You see when you go to "maps" and you select Canada it forwards you to another page that works for Canada. Well since I was doing this from work and it's all crazy security over there it didn't forward me. So they're still stupid because there's that extra step for nothing but not AS stupid as I thought they were.

Dear MapQuest visitor,

We apologize for the delay of our reply and any inconvenience this may
have caused you.

To map a Canadian location, please visit the MAPS feature at
http://www.mapquest.com and select the Addresstab above the entry fields.

Select Canada as the country from the pulldown menu at the top of the
Address Search form. After the page has been refreshed and displays
"Canada" as the selected country, enter as much information as you know
and click the GET MAP button.

Canadian driving directions:
----------------------------Please note: The address entry form on the
left hand side of the MapQuest home page at http://www.mapquest.com labeled
"GET A U.S. MAP" is for mapping in the United States and does not accept
Canadian province abbreviations.

MapQuest has street address to street address driving direction coverage
for most Canadian metropolitan areas. For directions within other areas
in Canada, please enter a Canadian city and the appropriate province
abbreviation in the field for "State/Province." A listing of state and
province abbreviations is available by clicking on the blue text link
labeled "State/Prov."

You can also mix street address/intersection-to-city routing. This means
you could request, for example, directions from a specific address like
123 Main St., Toronto, ON to just a city like Hamilton, ON.

Once you have obtained directions, you can pan and zoom on the route
overview map. The route overview map is displayed after the text
listing of the driving directions -- scroll down until the route
overview is displayed. Click the text link labeled Make this map
interactivelocated on the top right hand corner of the route overview
map. Use the panning frame surrounding the map to move your map in any
of eight different directions. Clicking on the top (North), bottom
(South), right (East) or left (West) side of the frame will pan your map
in that direction. Clicking on the corners will pan your map NorthEast,
NorthWest, SouthEast and SouthWest.

Canadian maps:
--------------

You can map addresses in most metropolitan areas of Canada. In more
rural parts of Canada you can map only cities. Make sure to choose the
correct country first, then enter the rest of the address.

WORLD ATLAS MAPS:

Maps of Canada are also available in our World Atlas section. Click on
this link for a complete map index:

http://www.mapquest.com/atlas/main.adp?region=canada

Thank you for your patronage of MapQuest, and keeping us posted on your
experience.

Best regards,
Ken

I thought it only reasonable to give a nice reply since it was partially my fault:

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the reply. I was a little confused about your instructions as that's what I'd tried before but I tried it out and it worked. When I was trying to go through the "maps" page originally I was at work and was not getting redirected because we have a locked down browser which does not allow page redirection for security reason. I was under the impressing that the country field was what would specify my country.

Thanks,
aDam
