Hey aDam,

Youre right the Apexs are pretty much hit-and-miss.

Maybe 50% of them have to be returned - but theyre only $119 (or $44 USD!) and can play VCD and all other types of formats and regions - even wmv now.

And I do agree with your beef in general. But if its all free its not really that bad. I DL a lot of the Anime stuff so Ive saved several hundered bucks there without buying it - its not the same as DVD but still. Then I put it on a 35cent CDR and store it away. The Purist would pay 1,509,995 Yen + shipping and duties for the authentic DVD and case.

I think the ultimate - and Im sure you will agree - would be to have perfect orignal DVD copiers. Like cheap DVD disks that hold up to 4.7G and players that play anything. Maybe in a few years....exact copies without any compression.

III chell into your mailing list - thanks for mentioning that. But at least adamrulz.com is pretty easy to remember. Its not like http://www.anglefire/futurecafe/~0103535/adamrulz.ca or anything else like that.

Take care,

JB

Yeah I couldn't believe Apex's were cheap the first time I heard a price. I figured with all that stuff they had to be expensive but I guess it's basically like having a cheap computer with a DVD drive so it'll support anything but be kinda crappy.

As for the purist thing well there's a line I'll draw. I'm not about to import anything unless it's something I'm really really hard core about. I'll download most stuff that's only available in Japan. On the other hand if it's something I could buy or rent here I won't bother. I mean it's hard to justify watching something on my computer when I could just go rent it or something.

DVD writters are getting real cheap real quick. I hope to get one when the discs become cheap. Then I'll get myself a nice capture card that supports DVD format MPEG-2 and pirate out the ass. I guess I could convert to DVD with with I have now but it wouldn't be perfect.

Where do you get your CDs? I've been getting mine at OEM Express on Catherine. They've got them for 100/25$. Not too shabby!

This place in some business park has 100 CDRs for $29 + tax. Works out to about $35. Ive gotten a new burner and have gone through 150 CDRs with no bad burns. Its just an LG from future shop but it has an 8MB buffer and I defrag once a week.

Talk to you later - thanks for the great board and well written beefs.

Best Regards,

JB

Holy hypocracy. So at that digital-digest board this admin sees my post, moved it to the rant board and posts a thorough reply to it. Then after a few more posts the same guy locks it because of "troll alert". Well make up your fucking mind. I guess he couldn't stand that his "side" was losing an argument. Fucking hypocrite.

Well, maybe you could go to the "beef page" he linked you to, and click on the Div-X link and that would tell you from one person's opinion what was "so bad about Div-X".
Just a thought

Div-X stinks.

Its blocky, it streaks, the codecs don't work in Linux,
and it stinks.

If I am going to watch a video, I DON'T WANT TO
WATCH IT ON THE COMPUTER!!!

ITs a computer, its a dangbusted COMPUTER!!!
Its not my entertainment system, so I don't
watch movies on it.

I watch movies using my video cd player
connected to my entertainment center.

I use MPEG and MPEG only (1 and 2)

There is NO MPEG 4! This Div-X claims its
mpeg 4 ----------

BULLPOOP!!!

dvd, vcd or svcd is all there is, Div-X stinks.
