Chasing Liberty:
The President's daughter goes to Europe and is bothered by her oppressive father who sticks too many secret service on her. She meets a guy who we learn early on is a secret service guy and falls in love with him. When she learns it she is mad at him and then gets back together with him for the happy ending.
First Daughter:
The President's daughter goes to University and is botthered by her oppressive father who sticks too many secret service on her. She meets a guy who we learn late in the movie is a secret service guy and falls in love with him. When she learns it she is mad at him and then gets back together with him for the happy ending.
This isn't just a very basic formula that happens to fall on 2 movies. These are extremely specific main plots that are essentially identical.
But Chasing Liberty is a much better movie... or maybe I'm just impartial with my preference for Mandy Moore over Katie Holmes.
Chassing Liiberty: July 4th 2004
First Daughter: September 24th 2004
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say First Daughter is the rip off though surely production would have been done on it when Chassing Liberty came out. It's like someone sold 2 variants of the same script to 2 companies or something.
Although.. Jerry O'Connel wrote First Daughter. -_-

Having seen 10 minutes of First Daughter on two none-consecutive 5 minute stretches, and nearly all of Chasing Liberty, I would have to say that First Daughter is better just because Michael Keaton is the president.
Chasing Liberty was so god awful it made me want to kill myself.
First Daughter was just retarded.

First Daughter is produced by Forest Whitaker and stars that Riley guy from Buffy. I surely can't respect such a movie.
And Chasing Liberty had the teacher from summer school as the President! He's way cooler than Micheal "hasn't done a good movie since Batman" Keaton!
