In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. Mankind - that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences any more. We will be united in our common interest. Perhaps it is fate that today is fourth of July. And you will, once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression or persecution, but from annihilation. We’re fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday but as the day when the world declared in one voice, 'We will not go quietly into the night, we will not vanish without a fight, we’re going to live on, we’re going to survive. Today we celebrate our Independence Day!'

Did you watch a terrible, propagadan flick on your own nation's Birthday or do you only celebrate US holidays in such a fashion?

Watching this movie on anyway but the 4th of July would be silly if a specific date was chosen. The only alternative would be to break the movie into 3 parts and watch it on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of July for the parts of the movie that took place on each day.
Anyway I didn't watch a bad movie today but I did get together with my family and indulge myself in the yearly ritual we have of watching Independance Day, the greatest 1996 had to offer.

Did you get Newport take out while watching it or did you have Hot Dogs with American Cheese and wash it down with Light Beer?
As for the best of 1996 I beg to differ:
12 Monkeys
Bottle Rocket
Fargo
Ghost in The Shell
James and the Giant Peach
The Frighteners
Trainspotting
basquiat
Swingers
Sling Blade
Mars Attacks!
Scream
The People Vs. Larry Flint
I would even put it behind:
All dogs go to Heaven 2.

This year on Canada day we went to a family BBQ where my family drank and swore in French. The only thing that's not Canadian about that is that some of those who do it in this country don't like to think they're from this country.
Anyway my other yearly things are failry French. The tortiere at Christmas and such.
But yeah...
12 Monkeys <- Fun movie but nothing too memorable
Bottle Rocket <- Funny in a weird kind of way
Fargo <- Boring boring boring annoying boring. Slept through most of it
Ghost in The Shell <- Solid movie
James and the Giant Peach <- Kind of stupid
The Frighteners <- NEver saw it
Trainspotting <- First movie I ever fell asleep while watching in theatres. After multiple later viewing I still think it's retarded and boring... though Ewan McGregor's penis is a non rare treat
basquiat <- Made up?
Swingers <- Actually never saw this movie despite meaning to watch it for a while
Sling Blade <- No idea what this is
Mars Attacks! <- One of the worst movies I've ever seen
Scream <- Garbage
The People Vs. Larry Flint <- Never seen it
Ghost in the Shell is the only movie in it's league you've mentioned.
