Anyone done this before and got it working? I want to try this with my Tv and computer somewhat, it would be freakin sweet if I got it working.

I've done a lot of TV but no TV out... though my ATI All In Wonder 7500 is supposed to do it... in theory...

I've got an ATI card and output it to the TV ... was like VCR quality at best with my chit. I had to use an S-Video connector. There's certainly better ways to do with better video cards and a TV that actually takes the input.

You use that same ATI card to do you digital out or whatever word escapes me? Had been thinking of trying the s-video out thing because of my cable. Don't know if that will work with my linux though.

Is that a question your posing or an answer? I'm confused by the lack of english there

My ATI card doesn't have a digital out hence the use of the S-Video.

Ack... question. I know there's a name for the digital thing... unless there isn't and I'm really confused. I think my brain is at like... 30% right now.

The digital thing ... there's a DVI digital input on your tv ... there's HDMI on the newer models. I think some TV's (but not ours) accepts a VGA input direct if I'm not mistaken. And i'm too lazy to find out, need to get to bed. Perhaps if PROS isn't in crisis all week LOL ...

I'm curious how those major computer-video tv setups they have over at Best Buy there are connected together. Never really looked as the "media center solutions" they're selling seem price prohibitive when it should be cheaper. I recall that the Sammy DLP tv's had a direct computer connection when I was looking but I liked the Wega's better and had no immediate intent on hooking up a computer to it.

I've had pretty good results connecting a laptop to a 36" TV via an S-Video cable in the past. The video is slightly softer compared to a monitor, but it actually makes for a better picture. Subtitles were sharp, but a little tough to read from a distance due to the small fonts most subbers use.

Of course, if you're not watching anime or foreign films, who gives a fuck about subtitles, right?

DVI is the term my deficient brain was unable to come to terms with. We all suffer a loss of faculties over PROS and such. -_-

Anyway I believe the super setups they have in those stores uses some kind of device which outputs to composite or maybe even DVI. Some sort of digital output. For sure it's not S-video because those TVs are showing more than 480 lines that's for sure.

As for what's joe's saying some subs just aren't made with TV watching in mind. Some need a deal of work so that they can be watched on a TV without having the subs cut right off at the bottom of the screen.
