God damn that George Lucas for giving us such great films and then dedicating his life to crapping on them:

At least Spielberg gives you the choice for the original or 25th Aniversary Edition for E.T.

You'd think Lucas would be in the same mindset.

I think you should just appreciate the movies for what they are, special edition or original, and get on with it.

in a perfect world he would release all the old films on DVD and give viewers a choice between cut, but thats just not happening right now.

My hatred and bitterness has consumed me to the point where I will never be able to watch the special editions without angering myself. I must therefore watch old versions like those on laser disc. It sucks that I won't be able to watch them in better quality but this is how Lucas wants it for me.

This site is good for showing the changes for the new DVDs: http://free.hostdepartment.com/s/starwarstrilogydvd/main.html

My all consuming hate is really getting to me these days. Every time I see a Star Wars thing in the store plugging this crap that's coming out on Tuesday I get all pissed off. I hope my hate doesn't prevent me from enjoying episode III.

I hope Lucas doesn't keep me from enjoying EP III, although in 10 years from the SE versions of the prequels come out maybe they will be good.

Quite. As Halden can attest it was a bad scene today at the Best Buy.

As I get in there's a stack of these DVDs. A stack for full screen and a stack for wide screen. They're just going like crazy. In less than a minute at least 5 were gone including a group of 3 who each picked one up. Harsh.

So they're playing it up on their sexiest plasma and God damn the picture looked good. It just made me imagine how wonderfull it would be if this stubborn bastard would just give it up and do the right thing by giving us the real movies. Harsh.

And on our way out there's the table with all the stacked DVDs dwindled down to a handfull left in the short time we were in the store. The Best Buy guy trying his best to stack new ones out of a massive box he just brought in. It's almost criminal.

Then came the real nail in the coffin. Next to the cash they're playing Jedi and I"m seeing the Death Star explode. Knowing it's the end I decide to stay around for the two greatest tragedies of these new editions, the Gungan screaming "Wesa Free" and the ghost of Hayden. Well it was a bad scene. I almost lost it right then and there in the store. All this quality of video completely soiled by such intrusive changes.

I'd love to get these but I'd hate to get them so much more.

The only thing worse than this travesty of a DVD release is the travesty of a GBA game that they released today to coincide with this travesty of a DVD release. It's a travesty, I tells ya -- a travesty!

TRAVESTY!!!

For reals, though -- if this set were the Holy Grail, you'd be looking at it all funny and shit, because instead of being filled with the blood of Christ, it's full of his holy steaming urine, Batman! The song and dance number at Jabba's palace must be eliminated. Stay on target, George!

You damned guest! Did you not realise the accounts moved over?

Yeah so using the grail analogy it's like... 95% filled with blood which is the unaltered scenes but little turds in it which is the 1997 and beyond stuff.

Can't say I even knew there was a GBA game. I was never one to play the Star Wars games. We've got all those cube and N64 games here in the house and I've never bothered to touch them.

If there's anything that inspires more geeky passion than Star Trek it's gotta SW. It escapes me to a huge extent though. Star Wars the movie was just so mediocre but it certainly filled a niche at the time. The acting is sooooo bad. Now the first few seasons of Buffy, now that I can get my geeky awareness going for.
